Who we are

Scrolls is a Bible reading app made by Bible Scrolls App, LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy covers Scrolls — the web reader and any later app — and this website, biblescrolls.app. Questions go to support@biblescrolls.app.

Using Scrolls without an account

You do not need an account to read. Bookmarks, highlights, notes, and where you left off stay on your device.

In the web reader, your browser loads pages and Scripture text from our host the way any website does. We still collect nothing about you — no account, no name, no email. Your reading data stays in your browser. Looking a word or phrase up is different, and that is the next section. Define, Wikipedia, and Web go to those sites, not to us. Original Text needs an account.

In an installed app, the Bible texts (including the Hebrew and Greek) ship inside it. Used signed out, it makes no network requests at all.

Looking up a word

In the web reader, tap Define on a single selected word and your browser asks Wiktionary for a definition. That request goes from your browser to Wiktionary (en.wiktionary.org), not to us. We do not see the word. We do not store it. You do not need an account.

If there is no entry, the reader may offer a link to Wiktionary in a new tab.

Select two or more words and the bar offers Web. Tap it and your browser opens a Google search for that phrase in a new tab. We do not fetch Google ourselves.

The same bar offers Original Text (or English Text, when you are already reading the Hebrew or Greek). You need an account. Signed out, we ask you to sign in and send nothing. Signed in, we send the verse span you selected to our servers. We look up the Hebrew or Greek words in our own database: surface form, transliteration, and Strong’s numbers. That request goes to us (Supabase), not to Wikipedia, Wiktionary, or xAI. It is not an AI call. It does not count against the daily chat limit. We do not save the lookup in your account. Tapping a Hebrew or Greek word there to see its other uses sends its Strong’s number the same way; we do not save that lookup either. Uses of an English word is a search on your device and does not come to us.

As soon as you select a word or a phrase, your browser also asks Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) whether a matching article exists. Grammar words (and, the, unto, said) are skipped and never sent. The word or phrase goes to Wikipedia, not to us. We do not see it. We do not store it. You do not need an account. If there is no article, the Wikipedia button never appears. If there is, tap it and the article opens in a new tab.

Wiktionary, Wikipedia, and Google each see what any website sees when your browser talks to them. We cannot promise what they keep.

If you create an account

Sign-in is a code, not a password. You give us your email address. We email you a one-time code. That address is the only identity we hold. We use it for sign-in codes and messages about your account. Never for marketing.

With an account, these can follow you across devices. Each has its own switch in the account panel. Turn a switch off and that category stays on your device only:

• Bookmarks
• Highlights
• Notes
• AI chat history

Display choices (type size, dark mode, and the like) follow the account so the reader looks the same everywhere. There is no separate switch for those. Where you left off in the text stays on each device. It is never sent to us.

Accounts and synced content live with Supabase, our database and sign-in provider. Database rules keep your content readable only by your account. We do not read your notes, highlights, bookmarks, or chats to improve Scrolls, and we do not train anything on them.

AI features

Chat and “Ask a Question” on selected words need an account. A machine writes the reply, not a person. When you use them:

• Your message, the conversation, and the passage you are reading go to our server, then to xAI (X.AI LLC). Their Grok model writes the answer. Our server may look up Scripture and original-language word data so the answer stays with the text.
• Questions you type about faith or the Bible are part of that chat. We send them only because you sent them. We do not read your chats to train anything, and we do not use them to improve Scrolls.
• Under xAI’s API terms, these requests are not used to train their models. xAI keeps a copy of the request and the answer, encrypted, for 30 days in case of abuse, then deletes it.
• Chats stay in your account until you delete them. You can delete a chat one at a time in Scrolls.
• We count your messages for the day so we can enforce the daily limit.

What we don’t do

• No ads. We never sell your data, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
• No analytics or tracking code in Scrolls.
• No cookies and no analytics on this website. Our host (Vercel) keeps ordinary server logs, as any host does, for security and uptime.

Service providers

Three companies help us run Scrolls. Each does only the job listed:

• Supabase — accounts, database, and sync. They also send the sign-in code to your email. Original Text is a lookup in that database.
• xAI — writing AI answers.
• Vercel — hosting this website and the web reader.

If the law requires us to share your data, we will share only what we have and only what we must. We will tell you first, unless the law says we cannot.

Retention and deletion

Synced content stays until you remove it. Delete a chat, note, highlight, or bookmark in Scrolls and the deletion follows you to every device.

Delete Account, in the account panel, permanently deletes your account and everything synced with it from our servers. That cannot be undone. Copies already on your device stay there. Or email support@biblescrolls.app and we will delete the account for you.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show, correct, export, or delete your data. Delete and correct most of it in Scrolls. For a copy of what we hold, or anything else, email support@biblescrolls.app.

Children

Scrolls is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information. If a child has an account, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

Traffic between you, this website, and our servers is encrypted. Database rules keep your synced content to your account. No system is perfectly safe. The best protection is holding as little as we can.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the new version goes here and the date at the top moves. Real changes will be easy to see, not buried.
